Stage 1 filter: The pre-filter in the clear container traps the sediment coming in from your water system. This primary filter also protects your downstream filters from premature contamination. You should change the pre-filter when you see that it's dirty. Filter life depends on the quality of your water supply. Stage 2 filter: The KDF Filter in the solid colored container removes extra contaminants from the water. This filter is capable of removing rust, dust, odor, chlorine, trihalomethanes (THM), chemicals, lead particulate, lead dissolved, hydrogen sulfide, barium, iron, cadmium, chromium, inorganic arsenic and it shows reduction in fluoride & nitrate, but inconsistant. The KDF also helps extend the lifespan of your ionizer's internal filter. You should change the KDF filter every 8-12 months depending on the quality of your water and your water usage.       ORP = Oxidation Reduction Potential. The more negative the value, the greater the anti-oxidant protection.
